Our Stewardship
Walking Together in Prayer, Stewardship & Sacred Service
Medicine of Many Tribes is guided through a model of stewardship that honors Indigenous spiritual leadership, community responsibility, reciprocity, and sacred service.
Each steward carries a unique responsibility in supporting the spiritual life of the community, caring for relationships, preserving cultural integrity, and helping fulfill the shared vision of Medicine of Many Tribes.
Together, we believe stewardship is not a position of authority, but a commitment to serve with humility, integrity, and respect.

Yawa Bané is a recognized Pajé of the Huni Kuin people of Acre, Brazil. Yet he often speaks of his role with characteristic humility, saying, "I'm not the Pajé. Nishipa is the Pajé. I'm Yawa Bané." Through these words, he reminds us that the sacred medicine is the great teacher, and that his calling is to faithfully serve and carry the traditions entrusted to him.
As a traditional forest doctor, his role is rooted in the spiritual relationship between the Huni Kuin people, the forest, and the sacred medicines. He carries the ancestral teachings, Huni Kuin cosmology, ceremonial traditions, prayers, Huni Meka (sacred songs), and spiritual wisdom passed down through generations of his lineage.
Through ceremony, storytelling, and direct guidance, he helps preserve and share the Huni Kuin understanding of the sacred relationship between humanity, the forest, the spirit world, and the medicines. His guidance helps shape the spiritual foundation of our community while preserving the integrity of the traditions he has been entrusted to carry.
Yawa Bané offers spiritual guidance, ceremonial leadership, and ancestral teachings, helping others understand not only the ceremonial practices themselves, but also the Huni Kuin worldview and cosmology from which they arise. He helps ensure that the traditions shared through Medicine of Many Tribes remain rooted in humility, authenticity, reciprocity, and respect.
He does not participate in the administrative governance of the organization.
